Packing list

Packing list for kids

A printable packing list for kids aged about 3 to 12: clothes for a week, swim gear, comfort items, snacks, journey entertainment and health basics.

40 items7 days · warm (highs around 75°F / 24°C) · flying · one child

Children need fewer clothes than parents fear and more snacks than anyone expects. The things that make or break a family trip are small: the comfort toy, the headphones and spare clothes in the day bag.

This checklist is one child’s list for a warm week away with some swimming and sightseeing. Make a copy for each child, or let older kids tick off their own.

How to use this list

Start a day or two before you leave and pack one category at a time, ticking items off as they go in the bag — your ticks are saved in this browser. Quantities follow the trip above: clothes scale with the number of days, with a little extra for spares. Travelling longer, in different weather or with more people? Open the list in Wayfold and it recalculates for your dates, the forecast and everyone travelling.

Packing tips

  1. 1

Let children pack a small bag of their own with a book, a game and their comfort item.

  2. 2

Put one full change of clothes in your hand luggage for accidents and spills on the journey.

  3. 3

Pack medication and any allergy items in the bag you keep with you, with a copy of prescriptions.

  4. 4

Label clothes and water bottles; kids’ things go missing at pools and hotels.
