What to pack for Portugal

Portugal has a mild Atlantic-Mediterranean climate: dry, sunny summers and mild, wetter winters. The Algarve in the south is the warmest and driest; the north around Porto is greener and rainier. Evenings on the coast are breezy even in summer.

That is the long-term pattern, not a forecast. Weather in any given week can be warmer, colder or wetter than usual, so check the forecast a few days before you leave — Wayfold does this automatically and adjusts the packing list for your actual dates.

Pack with Portugal in mind

  • Shoes with real grip — Lisbon and Porto are hilly and the polished stone pavements get slippery
  • A light layer or windbreaker for Atlantic evenings
  • Sun protection from late spring to early autumn
  • A compact umbrella or rain jacket from November to March
