Packing list
City break packing list
A city break packing list for a long weekend: layers for changeable weather, comfortable walking shoes, a daypack and one smart outfit for dinner.
City breaks are about walking — often 10 miles (16 km) a day — so shoes and layers matter more than outfits.
This list assumes four days of mild, possibly rainy weather with museums, sightseeing and one nice dinner. In Wayfold, each activity you plan adds what it needs, so a gallery day and a rooftop bar get different suggestions.

How to use this list
Start a day or two before you leave and pack one category at a time, ticking items off as they go in the bag — your ticks are saved in this browser. Quantities follow the trip above: clothes scale with the number of days, with a little extra for spares. Travelling longer, in different weather or with more people? Open the list in Wayfold and it recalculates for your dates, the forecast and everyone travelling.
Packing tips
- 1
Bring shoes you have already walked in for a full day. New shoes and cobblestones don’t mix.
- 2
A small crossbody bag worn at the front is harder to pickpocket than a backpack in crowded transit.
- 3
Most European cities are fine with contactless cards; keep a little local cash for small cafés and tips.
- 4
Plan one outfit that works for both a museum and a smart dinner — it saves a whole set of clothes.
