Packing list
Packing list for international travel
A packing list for international travel: passport, visa or ESTA, UK ETA or ETIAS, insurance, a plug adapter, copies of documents and 10 days of clothes.
Going abroad adds a layer a domestic trip doesn’t have: the papers that get you across a border, money and a phone that work in another country, and plugs that don’t fit your charger.
This international travel packing list is for ten days of mild, changeable weather, a city-and-museums plan and one wash along the way. Use it as an international travel checklist too: the documents section comes first because it is the one part you can’t fix at the airport.

How to use this list
Start a day or two before you leave and pack one category at a time, ticking items off as they go in the bag — your ticks are saved in this browser. Quantities follow the trip above: clothes scale with the number of days, with a little extra for spares. Travelling longer, in different weather or with more people? Open the list in Wayfold and it recalculates for your dates, the forecast and everyone travelling.
Packing tips
- 1
Check your passport’s expiry date against your destination’s rules; many countries want it valid for several months beyond your stay.
- 2
Visitors to the US under the Visa Waiver Program need an approved ESTA, and most visa-free visitors to the UK need an ETA. ETIAS for the Schengen area is not live yet. Apply only on the official sites, well before you fly.
- 3
Save a photo or scan of your passport, insurance and bookings offline on your phone, and keep a paper copy apart from the originals.
- 4
Tell your bank you are travelling, carry two cards in different places, and have a little local cash for small cafés, tips and transport.
- 5
Plug shapes differ: the US and Canada use Type A/B, the UK Type G and most of mainland Europe Type C/F. One universal adapter covers them all.
