Summer in southern and central Europe is hot, bright and busy, and most days are spent walking: old towns, museums, viewpoints and the odd afternoon by the sea or a lake.
This list is for ten days of city hopping in hot weather with a mid-trip wash. Shoulders-and-knees cover-ups are on it because many churches and religious sites ask for them.

Packing tips

Choose light, breathable fabrics such as linen and cotton blends; they dry overnight after a sink wash.

Carry a light scarf or shirt so you can cover shoulders when a church or cathedral asks you to.

Bring shoes you have already walked in all day; cobbles and long museum days punish new soles.

Pack a refillable water bottle. Many European cities have public drinking fountains, but check locally.
